Akpabio Denies Allegations of Bribing Senators With $15,000 Over Rivers State Emergency Rule
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed claims that he offered $15,000 in bribes to senators to support the state of emergency declaration in Rivers State. He described the allegations as baseless and part of a smear campaign against him.
Reports circulating on social media suggested that Akpabio distributed $5,000 on Tuesday and an additional $10,000 on Wednesday during a fast-breaking event at his Maitama residence attended by senators.
However, Akpabio, through his Special Adviser on Media, Eseme Eyiboh, denied the accusations, stating that his fast-breaking gatherings were a longstanding tradition. He questioned why the annual event was suddenly linked to bribery……….READ MORE
“The Senate President has been hosting fast-breaking events for years. He did it last year and this year. Why is it now being turned into a rumor?” Eyiboh asked.
He further dismissed the claims as fabricated, adding, “People are just making up these stories to add fuel to their malice and hate campaign.”
On Thursday, both the Senate and the House of Representatives unanimously approved President Bola Tinubu’s proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State. The decision led to the six-month suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the state House of Assembly members, citing the need to restore order amid political tensions.
