According to a statement from the police, the arrest took place on December 10, 2024, during a stop-and-search operation along Damboa Road in Maiduguri. The suspects were intercepted in a tricycle and found with phones of various brands.
The suspects admitted to snatching the phones from individuals in several villages along the Borno-Adamawa border, including Mubi town, Tashan Alade, Miringa, Kwaya Kusar, and Biu Local Government Area.
“The suspects have confessed to their crimes, and investigations are ongoing,” said the police statement. “They will be charged in court soon.”
The police are also working to return the stolen phones to their rightful owners.
In light of the upcoming festive season, the police urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. They emphasized their commitment to ensuring public safety during the holidays.
