NFF Refutes Claims Of Owing Late Christian Chukwu $128,000
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied allegations that it owed the late Super Eagles captain and coach, Christian Chukwu, $128,000 before his death.

Sanusi issued a statement via the NFF’s official X account, stating, “There is no record within the NFF of any outstanding indebtedness to ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu.” He explained that during the first term of the Board under Mr. Amaju Pinnick, a committee was established to review records of coaches owed by previous NFF administrations. The committee was tasked with verifying all debts and ensuring prompt payment to any coaches with outstanding balances.
Sanusi also noted that Chukwu was employed by the NFF from 2002 to 2005 before his departure following a 1-1 draw with Angola in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match in Kano in August 2005. “There is certainly no record of indebtedness to him in the NFF,” Sanusi confirmed.
He further urged anyone with legitimate documentation proving any owed debts to come forward, assuring that the NFF would settle any valid claims promptly.
Christian Chukwu, affectionately known as ‘Chairman’ for his influential role on the field, captained Nigeria to its first Africa Cup of Nations title in 1980 and later served as the national team’s manager. He passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the age of 74.
