According to report, Okupe, a former spokesperson for ex-Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, died in the early hours of Friday at age 72.

In a post on (formerly Twitter) late Friday, Obi disclosed that he personally visited Okupe’s family to express his condolences.

“Following the sad news of the death of my dear elder brother, late Dr. Doyin Okupe, and my earlier tweet today, I visited his family this evening to offer my heartfelt condolences.

“I assured them that we will stand by them during this difficult time. While no one can question God’s will, we must continue to support and stand by one another, especially in times of grief.

“Once again, may Almighty God grant the family the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss, and may the soul of Dr. Doyin Okupe rest in perfect peace,” Obi wrote.

National Leaders Pay Tribute to Okupe

President Bola Tinubu, along with other prominent Nigerians, has also mourned Okupe’s passing. Many described him as a dedicated public servant who played significant roles in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape.

In his tribute, Obi praised Okupe as “a man who desired a better Nigeria.”

Okupe served in various high-profile government roles and was a key strategist during Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign.
