Tragic Misfire: Police Escort Accidentally Injures Taraba Governor’s Sister Amid Gunmen Attack

Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on counter-insurgency efforts in the Lake Chad region, reported that the incident took place along Kente Road in the Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. Atsi, along with their mother Jumai, was traveling when they were ambushed by the armed group.

According to the report, a police officer assigned to protect the family unintentionally shot Atsi while attempting to fend off the attackers.

Following the assault, military personnel quickly intervened, rescuing the victims and airlifting Jumai and Atsi Kefas from the location via helicopter.

Atsi was taken to the hospital for medical care, but her current health status has not been disclosed as of this report.

Security forces are said to have recovered the vehicle used by the assailants, which contained an empty magazine and some passenger luggage.
