whether in the north, south, or any other region. He made this announcement during the unveiling of the Armed Forces of Nigeria Tattoo 2025 logo at the Defence Headquarters on Friday.

Clarifying previous concerns, General Musa noted that during President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to France, the agreements made focused solely on trade, industrial development, and technological cooperation, not on establishing military bases in Nigeria.

He addressed rumors suggesting that Nigeria had agreed to allow French military bases in light of directives from certain French-speaking nations to close their military bases. “We will maintain bilateral relationships with European and allied nations, particularly regarding training and modern hardware acquisition, but granting them a military presence in Nigeria is not included in any signed agreements,” he emphasized.

On the subject of the AFN Tattoo 2025, the CDS explained that “tattoo” refers to a military tradition focused on discipline and cultural display, distinct from the body art commonly associated with the term. He noted that since 2009, most military personnel have been engaged in operations against threats like Boko Haram, making it crucial to reintroduce regimentation that embodies the values of discipline, respect, valor, order, sacrifice, and duty.

“As we move toward a more peaceful environment, it’s essential for our younger soldiers to grasp the significance of military traditions,” he added.

General Musa highlighted that understanding these traditions is key to distinguishing true military personnel from less credible forces, fostering positive civil-military relations, and ensuring transparency and accountability within the armed forces.

In addressing the differences between Armed Forces Remembrance Day and the Tattoo ceremony, he mentioned the ongoing efforts to harmonize the two events. The Remembrance Day honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation while also celebrating living veterans.

“This regimentation sustains the military. When peace is restored and soldiers return to barracks, it instills discipline, obedience, respect, loyalty, and unity necessary for safeguarding the nation,” he concluded.
