Rivers State Administrator, Ibas Appoints New SSG, Worika

Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, has appointed Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), effective immediately. Professor Worika holds a Ph.D. in International Environmental and Comparative Petroleum Law & Policy from the University of Dundee, United Kingdom. He has held prominent roles in academia, international organizations, and governmental advisory positions.

Ibas emphasized that the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to harnessing the state’s human capital to promote peace, stability, and security within Rivers.

In addition, Ibas confirmed the resignation of George Nwaeke as the Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, expressing appreciation for Nwaeke’s contributions and wishing him well in his future endeavors. As an interim measure, Dr. Mrs. Iyingi Brown, the Permanent Secretary for Welfare in the Office of the Head of Service, has been appointed as Acting Head of Service until a permanent replacement is appointed.

Ibas reiterated his administration’s focus on neutrality, peace, and stability, assuring the public that these principles would remain at the core of the government’s efforts in Rivers State.

The Sole Administrator was sworn in by President Bola Tinubu on March 19, following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state. He is currently working toward restoring order and governance stability in Rivers.
