Nigeria Makes Bold Case To Host 2030 Commonwealth Games In Abuja

Nigeria has formally advanced its ambition to become the first African country to host the Commonwealth Games, following the official presentation of its bid in London on Wednesday.

According to Ireporter Online, the Nigerian delegation, led by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and the Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, showcased Abuja 2030 as an opportunity to establish a unifying legacy that embodies the values of the Commonwealth.

Olopade, in a statement shared on his account after the event, expressed strong optimism about Nigeria’s prospects. “We are very delighted to have presented an all-inclusive bid in our quest to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which, by the way, will be the first ever on African soil,” he said.

He further revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu personally addressed the Commonwealth Games Federation during the London presentation. “Our presentation today was led by Mr. President himself, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, who delivered a very powerful speech on why Nigeria is determined to stage the best Games ever witnessed in the history of the Commonwealth,” Olopade added.

The Abuja bid highlights sports excellence, cultural exchange, youth empowerment, and the potential of Nigeria’s thriving creative economy as central themes of the country’s proposal.
