According to Ireporter Online, tragedy struck in Zamfara State on Friday when armed men stormed a mosque in Yantodon Daji village, Tsafe Local Government Area, killing an Imam and four worshippers during morning prayers. The attackers also abducted three individuals during the raid.

Confirming the incident to journalists, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Maikaba, said the assailants deliberately targeted the mosque to incite fear and attract public attention. He explained that the method mirrored a previous assault on a mosque in Malumfashi, Katsina State, which had sparked widespread outrage.

Maikaba stated that the gunmen opened fire indiscriminately on worshippers as prayers were ongoing, resulting in the deaths of the cleric and four others. Those killed were identified as 75-year-old Sale Dangero, 72-year-old Mamman Yaro, 67-year-old Malam Lawali Bataribas, retired Assistant Superintendent of Police Malam Jafaru, aged 68, and 55-year-old Malam Safiyanu.

The abducted victims were named as Danyaye Alhaji Gambo, Malam Basiru, and Ibrahim Bello.

Preliminary police investigations, according to the commissioner, linked the attack to a notorious bandit leader, Bakin Malam, and his loyalists operating around the Makera axis. He assured that security operatives were on the trail of the perpetrators and vowed that those behind the killings would be apprehended and prosecuted.
