Cement Prices Surge: Dangote And BUA Bags Hit New Weekly Rates Across Nigeria

Over the past few months, cement prices in Nigeria have risen sharply, exerting pressure on builders, developers, and households nationwide. Leading brands such as Dangote, BUA, and Lafarge dominate the market, but price variations across regions and distribution networks have made the sector increasingly complex.
Recent market reviews indicate that cement costs differ significantly depending on the brand, type, intended use, and location. Dangote Cement is currently selling at ₦10,300 in Lagos and ₦10,450 in Port Harcourt, while BUA Cement is priced at ₦10,200. Lafarge Cement ranges from ₦10,200 to ₦10,500 across different states.
Multiple factors are driving the upward trend in prices. Depreciation of the naira has increased the cost of imported raw materials and machinery, which manufacturers often pass on to consumers. Additionally, high fuel and transport costs, coupled with poor road infrastructure, have further inflated logistics expenses.
Rising demand from construction projects, combined with supply limitations due to production capacity, power shortages, and raw material availability, has added further pressure. Local distribution challenges and dealer margins also contribute to regional price differences, as does manufacturers’ pricing strategy. While some cement makers have committed to “freezing” prices for government contracts, retail prices remain largely flexible.
Government intervention has occasionally sought to stabilize the market. In April 2025, for instance, a 50 kg bag of cement hit ₦9,700, prompting calls from authorities to lower the cost to ₦7,000. Analysts warn that unless supply constraints are addressed and regulatory frameworks enforced, cement prices are likely to remain elevated.
