Cross River Governor Otu Mocks ADC, Calls Opposition Nothing But A Distraction

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has declared that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) stands no chance of attaining power in the state or at the national level. Speaking in Calabar while receiving the endorsement of repentant members of the former Bakassi Defence Force for his 2027 re-election bid, Otu described members of the ADC as “Kwashiorkor politicians,” dismissing them as mere detractors with no real political weight.
According to Ireporter Online, the governor accused the ADC of being a group determined to drag the nation backward into hardship. “We have heard that some Kwashiorkor persons are making moves to take over power. They call themselves ADC. They are nothing more than detractors, a distraction! They can’t take Cross River back to Egypt,” he stated.
Otu also took a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), labeling it another “sickly group” incapable of leading Nigeria out of its challenges. He argued that, as a former opposition figure, he could easily recognize detractors who, in his view, were responsible for putting Nigerians in difficult conditions before his government came on board.
Despite his criticism of the opposition, Governor Otu emphasized that his “People’s First” administration would respect democratic principles, noting that dissenting voices would not be silenced. He stressed that democracy guarantees freedom of expression and association, assuring that his government would not obstruct political activities.
