Nigeria’s leading cultural sponsor in the telecommunications sector, Globacom, has reaffirmed its commitment to tradition by announcing the sponsorship of the 2025 edition of the Ofala Festival scheduled to hold in Onitsha, Anambra State, this October.

The Ofala Festival, a revered cultural rite performed annually by His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, will run over two days, with the Iru Ofala on October 17 and the Azu Ofala on October 18.

At a press conference held at Ime Obi, the Obi’s Palace in Onitsha, the Ofala Festival Organising Committee, in partnership with Globacom, highlighted the company’s continuous support for the festival since 2011. Globacom explained that its backing stems from a deep belief in Nigeria’s cultural heritage and its economic potential to create jobs, generate revenue, and elevate the nation’s tourism sector to international recognition.

The company cited projections for 2025 showing Nigeria’s tourism industry contributing N11.2 trillion to the GDP, up from N10.9 trillion in 2024. Domestic tourism is expected to reach N6.1 trillion, while international visitor expenditure is forecast at N803.2 billion. According to Globacom, these figures reflect strong growth and reinforce the importance of investing in culture as a driver of economic development, identity, and community pride.

Globacom further disclosed that this year’s sponsorship will include special initiatives for its subscribers, including a promotional package with prizes such as a brand-new car, tricycles, sewing machines, and grinding machines to empower individuals and families. The company also emphasized its ongoing investment in network expansion and 4G-LTE upgrades, particularly in the South East, to enhance customer experience in both voice and data services.

In addition, Globacom recently introduced two new customer offerings: the Talkmasta plan, which provides extra talk time and data at no additional cost, and the Welcome Bonus, designed to reward new subscribers with unmatched benefits upon joining the network.

Mr. Nnaemeka Maduegbuna, Chairman of the Ofala Strategic Marketing and Communications Committee, announced that this year’s celebrations would begin with the annual lecture series on October 7, followed by the Oreze Art Exhibition, which will showcase a collection of paintings, sculptures, and other creative works. He assured that adequate preparations had been made to deliver a memorable experience while ensuring the security and comfort of all participants.
