Edo Police Clarify Arrest Of Hunters, Not Armed Herdsmen

The Edo State Police Command has issued a clarification regarding the arrest of four individuals found with firearms, stating that they were hunters from Kano State, not armed herdsmen as speculated on social media.

In a statement released on Saturday evening, the command’s spokesperson, Moses Joel Yamu, explained that the four men—Yusuf Abdulkarim, Mujaheed Garba, Shittu Idris, and Jamilu Habibu—were apprehended by operatives of the Edo Security Network and subsequently handed over to officers at the Ikpoba Hill Division.…READ MORE…

The statement further detailed that the items recovered from the suspects included three Dane guns, six empty cartridges, three half-filled cartridges, four cutlasses, and two daggers.

Contrary to online reports suggesting that armed herdsmen had been arrested at a hotel, the police investigation revealed that the suspects were hunters who had traveled from Doguwa in Kano State to the Uvbe community in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State.

The statement emphasized, “Preliminary investigations show that the arrested individuals are hunters, not herdsmen, as some social media reports have wrongly claimed. They were traveling from Doguwa, Kano State, to Uvbe in Edo State.” The police also assured that the investigation was ongoing.

Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information that could cause unnecessary fear and disruption.
