IGP Orders Immediate Deployment of Forces to Rivers State Following State of Emergency Declaration

This move, executed in collaboration with the Armed Forces and other security agencies, aims to restore order, safeguard lives and property, and prevent the total collapse of law and order in the state. Authorities have also issued a stern warning against any attempts to exploit the crisis, stressing that security forces are fully prepared to take decisive action against those threatening stability.

A statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on March 20, 2025, highlighted that the Nigeria Police Force had been closely monitoring the situation in Rivers State. Intelligence reports had indicated growing threats to public order, necessitating a swift and coordinated response.

The statement emphasized that while individuals have the right to seek legal redress, any unlawful protests, violent demonstrations, or activities that could destabilize the state would be met with the full force of the law.

“It is evident that the political crisis in Rivers State over the last 22 months has led to a critical juncture, requiring timely intervention to prevent a breakdown of law and order with potential national security implications,” the statement read.

The IGP’s directive, undertaken with the cooperation of the Armed Forces and other security agencies, aims to bolster security, protect lives and property, and secure critical infrastructure within the state. Authorities have warned that any group or individual with criminal intent will be dealt with decisively.

The Nigeria Police Force urged citizens to remain law-abiding, comply with all legal directives, and report any suspicious activities to authorities. The statement concluded by stressing that security forces are fully equipped to address any threats to the peace and stability of Rivers State.
