Nigerian Pride: Dabiri-Erewa Hails Jovan Olafioye’s Canadian Football Hall Of Fame Induction

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Nigerian-born football star, Jovan Olafioye, on his induction into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, Class of 2025.
Olafioye, who carved out a remarkable career in the Canadian Football League (CFL), spent nearly a decade excelling in the sport. During his eight seasons with the BC Lions, he won the Grey Cup in 2011, earned multiple All-Star selections, and in 2012 was named the league’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman. His consistency, discipline, and leadership made him one of the most respected figures in Canadian football.
Reacting to the honour, Dabiri-Erewa described the milestone as a source of pride not only for Olafioye but also for Nigeria and its diaspora community worldwide. She noted that his recognition reflects the growing global influence of Nigerians across different fields, particularly in international sports.
“This achievement is a testament to the ability, resilience, and determination of Nigerians making a mark globally,” she said in a statement issued on September 24, 2025, by Gabriel Odu of NiDCOM’s Media, Public Relations, and Protocols Unit.
According to her, Olafioye’s story embodies the spirit of hard work and perseverance, serving as an inspiration to young Nigerians and aspiring athletes both at home and abroad.
