AE-FUNAI Expels Former Ebonyi Governor Security Aide Over Alleged Cult Involvement

The Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI) has officially expelled Felix Okemini, a former security aide to Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, following allegations of involvement in cult-related activities during the university’s recent matriculation ceremony.

Naija News previously reported that Okemini had been dismissed from his role as Special Assistant on Security for the Ebonyi North District after images of him at the matriculation event, held on March 14, 2025, circulated online. In the photos, he appeared to be wearing symbols and attire associated with a secret cult, prompting public outrage.

In response to the backlash, the university placed Okemini on suspension and launched a formal investigation into the matter. According to the university’s findings, while Okemini attended the ceremony, he had not completed his registration nor received an official matriculation number, raising questions about his student status.

The disciplinary panel concluded that Okemini participated in activities characteristic of cultism during the event, including chanting and displaying cult-related insignia. These actions, the university stated, posed serious security concerns and were considered especially troubling for someone newly admitted.

AE-FUNAI reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on cultism, highlighting that Okemini’s conduct directly contravened the Matriculation Oath he had taken.

As a result, the university formally withdrew his admission with immediate effect and directed him to return any university property in his possession to either the Chief Security Officer or the Dean of Student Affairs. He was also instructed to vacate and avoid the university campus henceforth.
