Davido Breaks Boundaries As He Joins Grammy Awards Voting Academy

Nigerian Afrobeats icon David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been officially inducted as a voting member of the Recording Academy, the organisation behind the Grammy Awards. According to Ireporter Online, the new status grants the award-winning singer the privilege to participate in both the nomination and final voting processes for the 2026 Grammys, a development that places him among global music professionals whose decisions shape the outcome of the world’s most prestigious music honour.
The Recording Academy confirmed the news through an announcement on its official Instagram page, releasing a video that featured Davido alongside other newly admitted members. In the post, the Academy emphasised the importance of members’ contributions in recognising artistic excellence, noting that voting for the 2026 Grammys will commence on October 3.
Reacting to the milestone, Davido expressed gratitude and described the recognition as a defining moment in his career. He stated that becoming part of the Recording Academy community is not only an honour but also an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the global music industry. The “Feel” crooner, who earned three Grammy nominations in 2024, stressed that the privilege of voting reflects how voices within the Academy influence what is celebrated each season.
Industry watchers say his inclusion is a symbolic win for Afrobeats and African music at large, as it demonstrates the Recording Academy’s renewed efforts to diversify its membership and expand representation beyond the United States. With this step, Davido joins an elite list of Nigerian and African stars—such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, Tems, and Ayra Starr—whose artistry continues to resonate strongly on the global stage.
Davido’s induction is widely regarded as another milestone in the continent’s growing influence within the world of music, underscoring Afrobeats’ position as a powerful cultural force.
