Eniola Ajao Breaks Silence: Why She Dragged Blogger To Court Over Viral Burial Video

Nollywood actress Eniola Ajao has initiated legal proceedings against a blogger following the circulation of a controversial video recorded during the funeral of Odunlade Adekola’s father. According to Ireporter Online, the actress disclosed that the blogger, identified as Adabasioni Oluwafemi Aseoro, was arrested and prosecuted under Nigeria’s cybercrime laws for defamation.
Ajao explained that the video, which sparked heated reactions online, was edited in a misleading manner that severely damaged her reputation. She noted that the matter was pursued in court, resulting in the blogger being remanded at Ikoyi Prison for two weeks before eventually tendering an apology.
While stating that she chose to forgive him after his expression of remorse, the actress warned that individuals who engage in spreading defamatory content online risk facing serious legal consequences, including imprisonment. She emphasized her readiness to protect her image against any future attacks.
The actress also extended appreciation to CSP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi and activist Aghedo Stephen for their support throughout the legal process. Taking to Instagram, Ajao confirmed the arrest and prosecution of the blogger for criminal defamation and cyberbullying under the Cybercrime Act. She accused him of character assassination and insisted that he had “paid for it in full.”
Responding to claims that the two-week jail term was too lenient, Ajao said her decision to forgive was out of consideration for the blogger’s family. However, she cautioned that anyone who attempts to malign her online would face the full weight of the law, stressing that “seven years’ imprisonment is loading” for future offenders.
The controversy traces back to a viral clip from the burial ceremony, where Ajao was seen hugging Odunlade Adekola’s wife. The footage drew mixed reactions from viewers, with some suggesting her body language appeared unusual and others accusing her of pretending to be distracted during the service.
