Kano APC Slams Door On Kwankwaso’s Return

According to Ireporter Online, the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected recent remarks by the National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, suggesting that he might consider returning to the APC under certain conditions.
The party’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Aruwa, described Kwankwaso’s claims as misleading, stressing that the APC neither invited nor desired his comeback. He explained that joining a political party follows established procedures, adding that if Kwankwaso was truly interested in rejoining, he should formally apply instead of issuing public demands.
Aruwa also dismissed Kwankwaso’s claim of being among the pioneers of the APC in Kano, insisting that the party was established under the leadership of former governor Ibrahim Shekarau. He maintained that Kwankwaso was attempting to distort history and emphasized that the ruling party could comfortably win the 2027 elections without him.
The APC spokesman further alleged that Kwankwaso had previously joined the party under conditions, warning that such demands would no longer be tolerated. He rejected speculations that the governorship ticket could be handed over to Kwankwaso or his preferred candidate, insisting that the APC already has strong contenders, including Senator Barau Jibrin, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, and AA Zaura.
In response, Kwankwaso’s ally, Buba Galadima, clarified that the former governor had no plans to return to the APC, insisting that his comments were misinterpreted. He explained that Kwankwaso was only reacting to pressures from NNPP members who were considering defecting to the APC.
Galadima declined to discuss any possible conditions for Kwankwaso’s return, stating that it was not the right time for such speculation. He also dismissed the APC’s claim of winning the 2023 elections in Kano, describing it as false. According to him, the party’s poor performance in the recent by-election proved that the NNPP, not the APC, enjoys the real support of the people.
