New Policy Alert! FG Mandates NIN For All Social Benefits – Millions Affected

The federal government has made the National Identification Number (NIN) a compulsory requirement for Nigerians seeking to access social services and government palliatives.

Senator George Akume, reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to ensuring digital identity for all Nigerians.

Represented by Professor Babatunde Bolaji, the SGF urged government agencies to collaborate with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to strengthen the national identity system. As the chair of the Project Ecosystem Steering Committee (PESC) for the ID4D Project, he commended NIMC’s director-general, Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, for her dedication and assured her of continued support in implementing reforms.

Similarly, the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Tanko Sununu, praised the NIMC leadership and reiterated his ministry’s partnership with the agency to ensure that the NIN is a mandatory requirement for vulnerable groups seeking government aid.

The retreat, attended by key PESC members and strategic partners, reviewed the progress of the ID4D Project, celebrated milestones, and explored solutions to challenges in implementation.
