Chaos erupted in Atan-Ota, Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State on Sunday after a suspected cult clash resulted in the death of a man identified as Moses.

A resident of the community, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the matter, alleged that the victim was attacked by members of the Aye Confraternity. Videos circulating online reportedly show the assailants repeatedly striking Moses’ right wrist with machetes while chanting in pidgin, “We are the ones in charge.” In the footage, Moses appears unconscious on the ground as the attackers continue their assault.

Another video showed Moses’ lifeless body with a severely mutilated wrist, surrounded by mourners who wailed in grief. Eyewitnesses described the incident as part of an ongoing battle for supremacy between rival cult groups in the area.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident. Chief Superintendent of Police Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, acknowledged Moses’ death when contacted.

Although Ogun State has recorded relatively fewer cult-related clashes in recent times, the killing adds to the rising number of fatalities linked to cult violence across the South-West. In neighbouring Lagos State, more than ten people were reportedly murdered in cult-related attacks within less than ten days.
