‘Who Is Even In Charge Of PDP?’ — APC Mocks Opposition Over Fresh Expulsions

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the intensified internal turmoil that culminated in the expulsion of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and several other prominent members. According to Ireporter Online, the opposition party’s crisis escalated after its 20th national convention in Ibadan, which was overshadowed by conflicting court orders, boycotts, and open resistance from two serving PDP governors.

Speaking in an interview, the APC Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, said the ruling party would not dwell on the opposition’s predicament but observed that the ongoing drama highlights long-standing leadership deficiencies within the PDP. He noted that while the APC has no intention of meddling in the PDP’s affairs, it remains willing to guide the opposition on how to operate a cohesive political structure.

Duru remarked that the APC could only speak for its internal operations, stressing that other political parties, including the PDP, must learn to manage their own affairs. He stated that if the PDP required lessons on party administration and member engagement, the APC would gladly organise a “crash programme” to teach them the basics of running a stable political organisation.

He also mocked the factional crisis within the PDP, noting that only one faction participated in the Ibadan convention before issuing conflicting statements regarding the expulsion of Wike and Fayose.

On whether the APC would accept the expelled PDP heavyweights into its fold, Duru dismissed such claims, insisting that the PDP had become so fragmented that it was difficult to determine who legitimately leads the party. He cited the positions taken by the Adamawa and Plateau State governors—who publicly disassociated themselves from the expulsion process—as further evidence of the party’s disarray.

Despite the criticisms, Duru emphasised that the APC does not wish to see the PDP collapse completely, underscoring the importance of a viable opposition in a functioning democracy. He maintained that if the PDP genuinely sought help, the ruling party was prepared to offer support, including deploying experienced members to assist in restructuring the embattled party.
