PDP On Fire: Rival Governors Break Into Secretariat As Battle For Control Explodes

A fresh wave of tension erupted at the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday as two opposing factions battled for control of the secretariat ahead of separate meetings slated for the same location.

According to Ireporter Online, the standoff stemmed from conflicting meeting notices issued by the faction aligned with former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and another National Working Committee recently constituted in Ibadan. Both groups insisted on using the party’s Wadata Plaza headquarters, which quickly escalated into a showdown.

Reports indicated that the Wike-leaning bloc, led by its National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, had arrived early on Monday with loyal supporters. However, tensions soared when an attempt to settle in was met with resistance, resulting in a heated confrontation between both sides.

Amid the unrest, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, and the newly elected PDP National Chairman, Taminu Turaki, reportedly forced their way into the PDP National Executive Committee hall. The trio is said to have led members of the Ibadan-produced NWC into the venue to proceed with their scheduled NEC meeting.

In a separate but related incident, further unrest unfolded at the Abuja headquarters, prompting police officers to fire teargas to disperse supporters as the leadership dispute intensified. The arrival of Governors Makinde and Mohammed, alongside Turaki, triggered additional clashes with security operatives and members of Senator Anyanwu’s faction, who attempted to block access to the facility.
