Just In: Kebbi School Abduction — One Student Manages To Escape

According to Ireporter Online, one of the schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, has regained her freedom after managing to escape shortly after the armed raid. School authorities confirmed on Tuesday that the girl, one of the 25 students taken by the attackers, made her way home not long after the incident. Another student, who was not among the abducted group, also returned safely.

The school principal, Musa Rabi Magaji, disclosed to journalists that the rescued girl broke free “within minutes” of the attack. He assured that both girls were “safe and sound.” Earlier reports indicated that the intruders killed the school’s vice principal, Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku, during the violent invasion, with several bodies later discovered within the school premises.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, has thrown the Maga community into deep distress, heightening concerns over persistent insecurity in the region. Reacting to the incident, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reaffirmed that safeguarding the nation’s children remains a core mandate of the government. Idris condemned the assault on the students and the killing of school officials, describing the act as unjustifiable and deeply troubling.

He added that the president has directed security and intelligence agencies to swiftly locate and rescue all abducted students, stressing that those responsible must be held fully accountable. The minister further explained that the Federal Government is reinforcing internal security architecture by strengthening military, policing, and intelligence operations. He also noted ongoing collaboration with ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force to dismantle cross-border criminal and terrorist networks.

In a separate development, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, instructed troops under Operation FANSAN YANMA to escalate search-and-rescue missions. During his visit to Kebbi on Monday, he ordered continuous day-and-night operations until every abducted schoolgirl is recovered.
