“I’ve Never Been Bode George’s Protégé – Wike Hits Back At PDP Elder”

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims of any political affiliation or mentorship with senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) figure, Bode George.

According to Ireporter Online, Wike, in an interview with Channels Television, challenged George’s influence and questioned the PDP’s performance in Lagos State since 1999.

Wike emphasized, “I am not Chief Bode George’s political son. I have never had any relationship with him. When he sought to run as party chairman, I was among those who opposed it, leading to his withdrawal at the convention. Ask Bode George—since 1999, has the party won anything in Lagos under his watch? Even when he served as deputy national chairman, nothing was achieved. It is only in my state that all members of the National Assembly are PDP members. What has Lagos accomplished?”

On internal party processes, Wike criticized George for what he described as emotional responses. “He speaks about congresses, but have the required congresses in the South-East been conducted? He need not be so emotional. Leadership is not about feelings; it is about action,” Wike said, noting George’s dissatisfaction with a recent Lagos congress.

The remarks come in the wake of PDP’s national convention in Ibadan, where Bode George reportedly moved a motion to suspend Wike and ten other party members over alleged anti-party activities. The motion gained support from several party members, reflecting ongoing leadership tensions and court interventions surrounding the convention.
