Tinubu Shakes Up Key Agencies As Adar Moves To NEITI, Shagari Takes Over NIWA
According to Ireporter Online, President Bola Tinubu has approved the redeployment of Musa Adar to serve as the new Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), succeeding Ogbonnaya Orji, who has headed the agency since 2021.
The announcement was issued on Tuesday through a statement by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The presidency also confirmed the appointment of former Minister of Water Resources, Mukhtar Shagari, as Chairman of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), replacing Adar.
Imohiosen noted that the changes take effect immediately.
Before his redeployment, Adar served as Chairman of NIWA. President Tinubu urged the newly reassigned officials to exhibit patriotism and apply their extensive experience to improve accountability, transparency, and overall service delivery in their respective agencies.
The president emphasized that the extractive industry and inland waterways remain critical to Nigeria’s broader economic diversification strategy.
These developments follow recent comments by the Acting Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Fatima Ayoade Oladele, who defended the administration’s appointment structure. She stated on October 19 that Tinubu’s selections adhere to constitutional principles of equity and national balance, noting that the North currently occupies 56.3 percent of federal leadership positions, while the South holds 43.7 percent.
