Rotary Empowers 64 Artisans With N15m Tools In Major Ikoyi Boost
According to Ireporter Online, the Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metro in Lagos has empowered 64 semi-skilled artisans with tools worth N15 million as part of its ongoing commitment to community economic development. The presentation, held at St. Gregory’s Girls Primary School in Ikoyi, formed part of Rotary International’s broader mission to foster economic growth, strengthen social resilience, and promote inclusive development.
Beneficiaries of the initiative included tailors, barbers, hairstylists, bakers, shoemakers, and welders, all of whom received tools intended to enhance their productivity and income potential. The event drew several notable figures, among them District Governor-Elect Layi Abidoye, District Rotaract Representative Atitebi Abiodun, former DRR Adekeye Fathia, and other district leaders and club members.
Past President Gbolahan Adeyinka described the programme as a core priority for Rotary, noting that although it could not be executed the previous year due to timing constraints, the club was pleased to expand its reach this year. Club President Alex Chukwu explained that the month was marked with practical empowerment instead of lectures, stressing that investing in people helps reduce poverty, curb idleness, and stimulate positive ripple effects within communities. He added that beneficiaries seeking further professional growth were encouraged to join the new Rotaract Club being chartered.
District Governor-Elect Abidoye commended Ikoyi Metro for its consistent service culture, describing the club as a shining example within the district. He said the empowerment drive reaffirmed its reputation for bold, life-changing projects.
For more than two decades, the club has maintained a record of impactful initiatives, ranging from correctional centre empowerment and scholarship schemes to a N100 million hospital renovation, underscoring its longstanding commitment to social development.
