APC HQ Sh*cks Ogun Chapter, Declares Gbenga Daniel Not Suspended

The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from claims that former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has been suspended from the party. According to Ireporter Online, the APC made it clear that Daniel remains a recognised and active member of the ruling party.

In a letter dated November 17 and signed by the APC National Secretary, Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the party noted that the National Working Committee (NWC) had neither discussed nor investigated any allegation of anti-party conduct involving the senator, as stipulated in the party’s constitution.

The clarification followed an enquiry by MJS Law Firm, led by Prof. Yemi Oke, SAN, which had issued a seven-day ultimatum requesting official documentation to justify Daniel’s alleged suspension. Oke confirmed that the national leadership responded within the deadline, affirming Daniel’s valid membership status.

In its correspondence to the law firm, the NWC emphasized that no decision had been reached on the actions taken by the Ogun APC. The letter explained that the committee must first review the matter and reach an informed conclusion before any sanction could stand. Until such a decision is taken, Senator Daniel remains a bona fide member of the party.

Despite this, the Ogun State chapter of the APC maintained that the suspension was justified. The party’s Publicity Director, Femi Nuberu, insisted that Daniel was disciplined for alleged anti-party activities during the Remo Federal Constituency by-election in August, arguing that due process was followed and the period for appeal had elapsed.

Nuberu’s comments came after a group of APC leaders from Ogun East condemned the suspension during a briefing at Daniel’s Asoludero residence in Sagamu GRA. They described the move as politically driven and part of a larger effort to sideline the senator ahead of the 2027 senatorial race. They also faulted the state chapter for failing to officially notify Daniel, relying solely on public statements.

Reacting to the national leadership’s position, Prof. Oke commended the APC for its transparency and assured that Daniel would continue to abide by party rules while contributing to its development in Ogun State.
