According to Ireporter Online, the Federal Government has intensified bilateral engagements with China as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at boosting non-oil revenue and strengthening economic partnerships. The latest talks focused on expanding cooperation in agriculture and skills development.

The discussions were held between the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Northwest Development Commission and Senator representing Jigawa North-East, Dr. Babangida Hussaini, and the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai. Senator Hussaini, who described the meeting as both “productive and fulfilling,” said the talks centered on practical areas of collaboration that promise direct economic benefits for Nigeria and Jigawa State.

He explained that the initiative is designed to increase the export of major agricultural commodities such as sesame seeds and hibiscus flowers, improve market access for farmers and traders, and reinforce commercial ties that can stimulate grassroots economies. Hussaini revealed that plans are underway to create strong and sustainable trade linkages between major Nigerian markets — including Gujungu Market and the Maigatari International Border Market — and key markets in China.

The meeting also explored opportunities for Nigerian youths to participate in advanced training, technology programmes, and capacity-building initiatives in China, including postgraduate studies aimed at expanding Nigeria’s skilled workforce. Senator Hussaini expressed optimism that the emerging partnerships will create new avenues for young Nigerians to innovate and contribute significantly to national development.

He extended his appreciation to Ambassador Yu Dunhai for his commitment to deepening cooperation between both countries and reaffirmed his resolve to pursue strategic alliances that will drive long-term progress for Jigawa North-East, the Northwest region, and the nation as a whole.
