Man City Sink Brentford, Keep Premier League Title Dream Alive

According to reports, Pep Guardiola’s side faced stiff resistance from Brentford for much of the contest and struggled to convert their dominance into goals during a tense opening hour.

Jeremy Doku eventually broke the deadlock in the 60th minute with a stunning curled effort into the top corner after reacting quickly to a blocked shot. The Belgian winger has now scored four goals in his last three appearances.

City had created several opportunities before the breakthrough. Doku tested goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher early on, while Erling Haaland squandered a headed chance and was later denied from close range. At the other end, Brentford threatened from set-pieces and nearly capitalised on a defensive error from Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Brentford also appealed for a penalty after Kevin Schade went down under pressure from Matheus Nunes, but the referee waved away the claims.

Guardiola introduced Omar Marmoush and Phil Foden in the second half in a bid to inject more urgency into City’s attack, and the changes proved decisive.

Haaland doubled the advantage in the 75th minute with an instinctive back-heel finish after his initial attempt was blocked. Marmoush then completed the scoring in stoppage time with a composed strike from inside the penalty area.

The victory moved Manchester City to within two points of league leaders Arsenal, who are set to face West Ham on Sunday. City also retain a game in hand, although Arsenal remain firmly in control of the title race and could secure their first Premier League crown in 22 years if they win all of their remaining fixtures.

Guardiola’s side will return to action on Wednesday when they host Crystal Palace before shifting focus to the FA Cup final against Chelsea on May 16.
