The Nigerian naira traded against the United States dollar at an average selling rate of ₦1,395 and a buying rate of ₦1,385 in the parallel market on June 23, 2026, according to information obtained from Bureau De Change operators in Lagos.

Market checks showed that currency traders exchanged the dollar within this range across major foreign exchange hubs, reflecting the prevailing rates in the unofficial forex market. The figures indicate that individuals seeking to purchase dollars from parallel market operators paid up to ₦1,395 per dollar, while sellers received approximately ₦1,385 for every dollar exchanged.

Meanwhile, data from the official foreign exchange market showed that the dollar traded within a range of ₦1,365 to ₦1,375, highlighting the continued gap between the official and parallel market rates.

Financial authorities have consistently maintained that foreign exchange transactions should be conducted through authorized channels. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) does not recognize the parallel market and has repeatedly advised individuals and businesses seeking foreign exchange to carry out transactions through licensed financial institutions and approved market platforms.

Currency dealers noted that exchange rates remain subject to fluctuations based on market demand, liquidity levels, and other economic factors. As a result, actual buying and selling prices may vary across locations and among traders.
