Police Intercepts 47 Sacks Of Military Uniforms, 80 Cartons Of Drugs In Lagos

According to Ireporter Online, the Lagos State Police Command has intercepted 47 sacks of military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illicit substances during a coordinated intelligence-led operation in the Surulere area of Lagos State.

The operation, carried out by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, also resulted in the arrest of three suspects identified as 29-year-old Chinedu David, 38-year-old Ezeagwu Chukwuma, and 45-year-old Ifeanyi Ogbeanyi.

The suspects were reportedly arrested on Saturday night while conveying the items in an unregistered MAN diesel truck. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, disclosed this during a briefing at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday.

Security authorities said the vehicle was found loaded with multiple sacks containing military camouflage uniforms alongside cartons of substances suspected to be illegal drugs. The truck and its contents have since been taken into police custody for further investigation.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment of military uniforms was allegedly destined for the South-East region of the country. Authorities have since intensified efforts to trace the source of the items, identify the rightful owners, and determine the full network behind the operation.

The Commissioner of Police noted that investigators are currently assessing the level of involvement of each suspect while expanding inquiries to track other individuals potentially connected to the case.

He further stated that the discovery does not pose an immediate security threat to residents of Lagos, as the shipment was reportedly being moved out of the state. However, he emphasized that the recovery remains significant, given past instances where criminal elements have been linked to the use of military-style uniforms in unlawful activities.

A police source familiar with the investigation revealed that the driver of the truck and his assistant were initially apprehended. The source added that two additional suspects later presented themselves at a police station in Surulere, claiming ownership of the seized items, and were subsequently taken into custody for questioning.
