Nanette Teams Up With Mbryo For New Single ‘Taking Me Places
According to Ireporter Online, South African contemporary R&B singer Nanette has teamed up with acclaimed Nigerian songwriter and hitmaker Mbryo for a new single titled Taking Me Places, the lead track from the deluxe edition of her recently released project, Painfully Happy (Deluxe).
The collaboration brings together two of Africa’s rising musical talents, combining Nanette’s emotionally driven songwriting with Mbryo’s reputation for crafting chart-topping Afrobeats records. The song reflects the growing wave of cross-border collaborations shaping the continent’s music industry and highlights the ambition and global outlook of Africa’s next generation of artists.
The record was created during a songwriting camp at Mavin Studios in Lagos, where Nanette worked alongside Mbryo and renowned South African producers MashBeatz and Christer. Blending contemporary R&B with influences from both South Africa and Nigeria, the song celebrates creativity, opportunity and the power of music to connect cultures across the continent.
Shortly after completing the track, Nanette and Mbryo gave fans an early taste of the collaboration with a live performance at Obi’s House in Lagos. The performance was warmly received by the audience, while a teaser shared on TikTok attracted more than 100,000 views within a short period, signalling strong anticipation ahead of the song’s official release.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Nanette revealed that Taking Me Places was written during her visit to Nigeria and was influenced by her travel experiences and the opportunities music has created in her life. She described Mbryo as an exceptional songwriter, praising his impressive catalogue of work and crediting him as the perfect collaborator for the project.
Mbryo also expressed excitement about working with the South African singer, describing the recording process as effortless and creative. He said both artists immediately recognised they had produced something special and expressed confidence that listeners around the world would connect with the song.
Mbryo, who has contributed to some of Afrobeats’ biggest successes, continues to build his reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading songwriters. His credited works have accumulated more than 1.2 billion streams on Spotify, including contributions to hit songs by Ayra Starr, Crayon and the Mavin All Stars, cementing his influence on the contemporary African music scene.
