Asamoah Gyan Names Nigeria, Ivory Coast, And Morocco As AFCON 2025 Favorites
As the countdown to the December 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) continues, former Ghanaian international Asamoah Gyan has identified Nigeria, Ivory Coast, and hosts Morocco as the leading contenders for the tournament.
Speaking at the CAF Awards in Morocco on Wednesday, Gyan acknowledged the competitive strength of African football while expressing disappointment that Ghana will miss out on the tournament. “There are many giants participating. Ghana is out, which is disappointing, but we have qualified for the World Cup,” he stated.
The former Black Stars captain highlighted Nigeria’s strong showing in the previous AFCON, noting that the Super Eagles came close to clinching the trophy. “Nigeria performed well in the last edition, nearly winning. Ivory Coast also did well, and there are many competitive teams,” Gyan remarked.
Gyan also commended Morocco for their consistency and growing confidence on the continental stage, declaring the North African side a formidable contender alongside Nigeria and Ivory Coast.
Nigeria’s last AFCON campaign ended in a narrow 2-1 defeat to hosts Ivory Coast, leaving fans eager for the next edition. Gyan’s predictions have already sparked discussions among supporters and analysts about which nations are most likely to emerge victorious in 2025.
According to Ireporter Online, the debate surrounding the tournament’s favorites continues to gain momentum as teams finalize preparations.
