Fresh Controversy Erupts in Mohbad Case as VDM Alleges Framing of Naira Marley
New developments in the investigation into the death of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, have emerged as controversial social media figure Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan (VDM), claims actress Iyabo Ojo and others allegedly conspired to frame music executive Naira Marley for the artist’s demise.
According to reports, VDM recently obtained access to a private WhatsApp group chat named “Concerned Citizens,” where discussions allegedly occurred about controlling the narrative surrounding Mohbad’s death. The social media activist claims group members dismissed Mohbad’s father’s persistent demands for a DNA test to establish the paternity of the late singer’s son, Liam. VDM maintains he paid over N20 million to access the chat, though music producer Samklef, a group member, disputes this claim.
The controversy deepened when Iyabo Ojo filed a petition against officers of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, alleging misconduct during her interrogation. Ojo claims VDM was improperly allowed into her interrogation session with Naira Marley and associate Sam Larry without her consent, compromising her safety and the investigation’s integrity. She has requested the case be transferred to Lagos for neutral handling.
Meanwhile, cybersecurity experts have weighed in on VDM’s methods, with specialist Jerahmeel Madumere clarifying that WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption makes hacking improbable. Madumere suggested VDM likely obtained information through social engineering or an insider leak rather than technical hacking. Legal practitioner Tolu Babaleye confirmed that while illegally obtained evidence violates cybersecurity laws, such material may still be admissible in court proceedings.
Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, maintains he awaits an official court-ordered DNA test, dismissing speculation about results from unauthorized sources. The grieving father reiterated his commitment to uncovering the truth about his son’s death, recalling disturbing details about bloodstains he observed on Mohbad’s clothing after his passing.
New revelations continue to emerge about Mohbad’s psychological state prior to his death, with his widow Omowunmi and close associate Bella Shmurda describing his struggles with depression, fear, and alleged substance abuse. Psychologist Dr. Martin Agwogie cautioned against definitive conclusions without autopsy results, noting that psychoactive substances affect individuals differently based on various biological and environmental factors.
As the investigation continues, the Lagos State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to enforcing cybercrime laws and conducting thorough due diligence on all reports related to the case.
