Makinde Hands Over to Deputy Bayo Lawal, Proceeds on One-Month Leave

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially handed over the reins of government to his deputy, Bayo Lawal, who will serve as Acting Governor during his one-month leave beginning Friday, August 29, 2025.

According to IReporter Online, the governor’s decision was communicated in a formal letter addressed to the Oyo State House of Assembly and read aloud by the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, during plenary on Tuesday.

The letter, which is in compliance with Section 190(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), requests the Assembly’s approval for Makinde’s vacation and notifies the legislature of Lawal’s temporary assumption of duties.

“I hereby transmit that during the period indicated above, the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, shall serve as Acting Governor. I shall resume duty upon my return from vacation on Monday, September 29, 2025,” the letter reads in part.

Makinde’s planned trip includes engagements in Japan, where he is expected to explore potential partnerships and development opportunities for Oyo State.
