Minister Abubakar Momoh Mourns Former IGP Solomon Arase, Hails His Legacy Of Reform And Service

I received with profound sadness the news of the passing of Solomon Ehigiator Arase, CFR, fdc, PhD, former Inspector-General of Police and immediate past Chairman of the Police Service Commission.

The late IGP Arase was more than a distinguished officer — he was a reformer, an intellectual, and a patriot whose entire life was devoted to the pursuit of justice, peace, and security for our nation. His tenure as the 18th Inspector-General of Police was defined by uncommon courage and a commitment to professionalism, particularly through the institutionalisation of the Complaint Response Unit, which brought renewed hope to citizens seeking accountability from the police.

Even after leaving office as IGP, he continued to serve Nigeria meritoriously, bringing wisdom and integrity to the Police Service Commission where he championed policies aimed at improving welfare, discipline, and operational excellence within the Force. His passing is therefore a great loss — not just to the Nigeria Police Force, but to every Nigerian who desires a safer, more just society.

On behalf of my family, the management and staff of the Ministry of Regional Development, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Arase family,Edo State , the Nigeria Police Force, and all Nigerians who mourn this irreparable loss.
