Tinubu Meets Service Chiefs In Closed-Door Security Discussions

According to Ireporter Online, the meeting, which lasted for over two hours, centred on a detailed assessment of Nigeria’s current security situation and updates from various military theatres of operation nationwide.

Sources familiar with the discussions revealed that the President received comprehensive briefings on ongoing counter-terrorism operations, emerging security threats and efforts by security agencies to tackle insecurity in different parts of the country.

The State House confirmed the meeting through photographs released on Thursday evening, although details of the decisions reached during the engagement were not immediately made public.

Those in attendance included National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.); Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Isa; and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lieutenant General Emmanuel Undiandeye.

Also present were the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Adeola Ajayi; Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed; Special Adviser to the President on Homeland Security, Major General Adeyinka Famadewa (retd.); and Inspector-General of Police, Olatunde Disu, alongside other senior officials from various security agencies.

The meeting came shortly after security forces carried out major operations against terrorist groups in the North-West region.

According to reports, troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, with support from the Air Component of the Joint Task Force, North-West, successfully disrupted a planned terrorist attack in parts of Zamfara and Katsina states.

During the operation on July 7, Nigerian Air Force aircraft reportedly tracked a large convoy of armed terrorists moving on motorcycles from the Sunke-Kumbo axis towards Gummi, leading to targeted air strikes against the group.

In another operation, troops reportedly eliminated Alhaji Tukur, described by military authorities as a notorious bandit commander and younger brother to wanted bandit kingpin, Alhaji Shehu Bagiwaye, in Dogon Kade.

The latest security meeting underscores the Federal Government’s continued efforts to strengthen intelligence coordination and intensify military operations aimed at restoring peace and stability across the country.
