The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has declared that Nigeria has moved beyond its worst economic difficulties at the macroeconomic level under President Bola Tinubu.

According to Ireporter Online, Morka made the statement during an interview on Channels Television while defending the economic policies of the Tinubu administration.

The APC spokesman argued that key economic indicators demonstrate progress, insisting that Tinubu inherited an economy that was in poor condition and had taken steps to stabilise it.

Morka further claimed that Tinubu’s performance during his first term has surpassed that of previous democratically elected presidents, including Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.

He said the economic indicators “speak for themselves,” maintaining that the current administration inherited serious economic challenges from previous governments.

Morka also gave a different assessment of Buhari’s administration, describing the former president as a “stopgap president” whose government, according to him, prevented Nigeria from falling into deeper crisis after 16 years of PDP rule.

He argued that Buhari’s administration served as a transitional period before Tinubu assumed office and embarked on more extensive economic reforms.

The APC spokesman particularly defended the removal of the petrol subsidy and the government’s foreign exchange reforms, acknowledging that the policies had caused hardship and generated widespread criticism.

However, he maintained that the reforms were necessary to reposition the economy and insisted that their impact was gradually becoming evident at the macroeconomic level.
