Macron Makes U-Turn, Reappoints Lecornu As French Prime Minister After Political Meltdown

French President Emmanuel Macron has reappointed Sébastien Lecornu as Prime Minister, just days after the politician resigned following the dramatic collapse of his short-lived government.

According to Ireporter Online, the Élysée Palace announced the decision on Friday, stating that “the president of the republic has named Mr. Sébastien Lecornu prime minister and has charged him with forming a government.”

Lecornu’s initial administration had been unveiled only last Sunday but quickly unraveled after his interior minister publicly criticised the composition of the new cabinet. The controversy deepened as Lecornu tendered his resignation by Monday morning, a move President Macron swiftly accepted.

However, in an unexpected twist, Macron later tasked Lecornu with consulting opposition leaders to find a suitable successor. After two days of inconclusive discussions, the French leader reversed course and reinstated Lecornu as prime minister.

The reappointment has sparked debate across France’s political landscape, with observers drawing parallels between the country’s unfolding instability and the political volatility often seen in Italy.
