Nollywood’s Next Big Star? Mr. EMMY Says His Talent Is A Gift From Above
According to Ireporter Online, emerging Nollywood actor and content creator, Adisa Jamiu Opeyemi, popularly known as Mr. EMMY, has described acting as more than a career—he believes it is a divine calling that drives his purpose in life.
In an exclusive interview, the Kwara State-born thespian opened up about his passion, struggles, and steady rise in Nigeria’s creative industry. “I discovered my passion for acting from a young age,” he said, recalling how his love for the craft deepened during his studies in film and multimedia production at the Federal Polytechnic, Offa. “While pursuing mass communication, I realized acting wasn’t just a hobby—it was my calling. Through my work, I aim to inspire, educate, and entertain people both within and outside Nigeria.”
Mr. EMMY’s first significant exposure came during his final year in school when he starred in a student film project. His transition into professional acting began shortly after, with his debut role in Yoruba Nollywood coming through a friend and colleague, Kabir, popularly known as Cause Trouble.
Reflecting on his journey, the actor revealed that his path has been filled with sacrifices. “Time, finances, and comfort are the biggest things I’ve had to give up. I’ve worked countless hours, travelled long distances for auditions, and even acted without pay just to gain experience. But every sacrifice shaped who I am today,” he shared.
Speaking about his latest project, Emmy Striker, Mr. EMMY disclosed that the movie centers on youth empowerment and social values. Drawing inspiration from notable Nollywood figures like Muyiwa Ademola and Kunle Afolayan, he emphasized his mission to tell more inspiring African stories and eventually collaborate with international filmmakers to elevate Nigerian storytelling globally.
The talented actor has starred in several Yoruba productions, including Labake Eleyin Oro, Eemo Niletura, Irawo Eda, Oloja Oru, Orisa Orisun, Omi Aro, and Elenini. He has also featured in short films and web series, expanding his creative influence through YouTube and other digital platforms.
