Nation Mourns: Family Confirms Senator Ezea’s Death, Reveals Final Moments

According to Ireporter Online, the family of Senator Okey Ezea has officially announced his passing. The lawmaker, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District in the 10th Senate, died late Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at approximately 11:07 p.m. in a private hospital in Lagos after a brief illness.

In a statement issued by his son, Jideofor Ezea, the family expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the distinguished senator. He noted that the late politician is survived by his wife, Chioma, and their four children.

The family’s announcement also reflected on Senator Ezea’s significant impact in the National Assembly. He previously chaired the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions at the start of the 10th Assembly before later becoming Vice Chairman of the Committee on Housing and Urban Development. Until his death, he also served as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committees on Cooperation and Integration in Africa and NEPAD, as well as Culture and Creative Economy.

Throughout his legislative career, Senator Ezea sponsored several important bills and motions. These included the proposal to establish the Federal College of Agriculture, Adani, and a motion advocating the creation of a military base in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State to curb recurring attacks by armed herdsmen.

His political journey extended far beyond the Senate. A founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), he played a key role in strengthening the party’s presence in Enugu State in 2013. He contested the Enugu governorship election three times—twice under the Labour Party in 2007 and 2011, and again in 2015 under the APC.

Senator Ezea’s victory in the 2023 senatorial election, where he defeated an incumbent governor under the Labour Party, was considered a major political breakthrough. He also previously served as Chairman of the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, in Taraba State.

The family emphasized that the late senator remained unwavering in his political convictions. Despite several lawmakers from Enugu State defecting to the ruling party, he stayed loyal to the Labour Party, the platform through which he was elected.

As they mourn, the Ezea family appealed to the public for prayers and support during this difficult period.
