According to Ireporter Online, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has confirmed that its operatives successfully disrupted an attempted kidnapping in Guto Village, a border settlement in the Bwari Area Council of Abuja, in the early hours of Thursday. The assailants, estimated at about 30, reportedly stormed the community and attempted to break into a residence before security agents intervened.

A statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, disclosed that officers from the Bwari Division Surveillance Team and the IGP Special Intervention Squad were swiftly deployed after a distress call alerted authorities to the invasion. The armed gang opened fire immediately upon sighting the security teams, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire.

According to the police, two of the gunmen were killed during the shootout, while others fled into the surrounding bushes and hilly terrain. Adeh, however, confirmed that one police officer was fatally injured during the confrontation and was later pronounced dead at the Bwari General Hospital.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, commended the responding officers for their courage, professionalism, and swift action, describing the fallen officer as a hero who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to report suspicious activities, assuring that the Command would intensify efforts to root out criminal elements in the territory. Emergency response numbers were also reiterated for public use.
