“There’s Room For Everyone” – Olamide Breaks Silence After Afrobeats Ranking Sparks Fan War
According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian rap star Olamide has clarified his recent remarks on Afrobeats rankings following heated reactions across social media. The controversy erupted after the award-winning artiste, during a press briefing in Toronto, Canada, ranked Wizkid as the leading Afrobeats act after the late Fela Kuti. The comment immediately triggered widespread debate, with supporters of Burna Boy and Davido insisting their favourites were equally deserving of the top spot.
Responding through his X handle, Olamide noted that differing opinions are inevitable in a vibrant industry like music. He stressed that the creative space is wide enough for every artiste to excel, adding that fans are free to support whoever resonates with them without diminishing the achievements of others.
Olamide further stated that Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido have evolved far beyond being bothered by conversations about rankings. According to him, their global success stems from a commitment to their craft rather than online arguments. He emphasized that greatness cannot be reduced by public opinion, noting that “there’s plenty of room in the sky for everyone.”
He wrote, “This whole lengthy three-way conversation is pretty much whatever. You can’t diminish anyone’s greatness, whether they are A-list, B-list, or anything else. Believe what you want and support whoever you choose – there’s room for everyone. Burna, David, and Wiz aren’t narrow-minded enough to get offended by someone else’s perspective. That’s part of why they are where they are today.”
