Spanish football club Villarreal CF has officially announced the acquisition of Ghanaian international midfielder Thomas Partey ahead of the 2025/26 season. The 32-year-old is set to join the team immediately and will commence training at the club’s facility, Ciudad Deportiva, starting tomorrow, following a completed agreement with the La Liga side.

Partey arrives with considerable experience in European football, having featured for prominent clubs such as Arsenal FC, Atlético de Madrid, UD Almería, and RCD Mallorca. Known for his strong tactical awareness and commanding presence in midfield, he has long been praised for his ability to recover possession and initiate play from deep positions.

In a formal statement, Villarreal lauded the Ghanaian as a “fantastic ball recoverer” with a powerful mid-range shot and the technical skill to break through defensive lines. Partey has made over 50 appearances for Ghana’s national team, representing his country in various Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifying matches. His club-level achievements include a UEFA Europa League title, a UEFA Super Cup, and a La Liga championship with Atlético Madrid, as well as a Community Shield victory with Arsenal.

However, Partey’s signing coincides with ongoing legal proceedings in the United Kingdom, where he is currently facing a sexual assault lawsuit. While the matter remains unresolved, Villarreal emphasized that they are standing by the player’s right to a fair trial and stressed the principle of presumption of innocence.

“The player denies all allegations against him and maintains his innocence unequivocally,” the club stated. Villarreal further clarified that due to the legal nature of the case and restrictions under UK law, they will refrain from making additional public comments until judicial proceedings are concluded.

Reiterating its stance on institutional ethics, the club added: “Villarreal CF reaffirms its unwavering commitment to respect, diversity, and the condemnation of all forms of violence—be it gender-based, discriminatory, or otherwise in violation of human dignity.”
