Vice President Shettima Condemns Kebbi Schoolgirls Abduction, Vows Swift Rescue

According to reports, Vice President Kashim Shettima has strongly condemned the abduction of schoolgirls in Maga village, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, describing the incident as a “national tragedy” that has deeply affected the nation.

During his visit to Kebbi State on Wednesday to console the government and the families of the victims, Shettima assured that the Federal Government is fully committed to rescuing the girls. “Kebbi’s pain is Nigeria’s pain,” he said, emphasizing that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains deeply concerned and dedicated to the ongoing rescue operations.

The Vice President added that all available state resources would be mobilised to ensure the safe return of the abducted students. He also pledged federal support for the family of the late vice principal, who reportedly died defending the students during the attack, stating, “His sacrifice will not be in vain.”

Shettima commended the security agencies for their efforts in combating insecurity across the region and acknowledged the courage of personnel on the frontline, particularly highlighting the contribution of a late Brigadier General involved in the operations.

He further praised Kebbi State Governor Dr. Nasir Idris for his dedication to enhancing security in the state, calling him “a true son of the North.” The Vice President was accompanied by top officials, including the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, the Minister of Women Affairs, and the APC National Chairman.

Governor Idris expressed gratitude to Shettima and President Tinubu for their solidarity, affirming that Kebbi State remains confident in the Federal Government’s determination to address insecurity.
