Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has formally reconciled with former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, bringing an end to years of political hostility between the two figures. According to Ireporter Online, Obasanjo made the declaration during Fayose’s 65th birthday celebration in Lagos on Saturday, where a viral video captured the moment the elder statesman announced his decision to forgive the former governor, drawing applause from attendees.

Obasanjo described the event as a moment for celebration and reflection, noting that it also offered an opportunity to make corrections where necessary. He explained that he initially received the invitation to the birthday celebration through former Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka, whom Fayose had sent to gauge his response.

Recounting the encounter, Obasanjo said he told Chidoka to simply return to Fayose with the message that the invitation had been delivered. The former president acknowledged that Fayose had privately requested forgiveness, prompting Saturday’s public declaration.
