Abike Dabiri-Erewa Urges Nigerians Abroad To Seize ₦673m Diaspora Investment Opportunity

The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged Nigerians both at home and abroad to take advantage of the growing investment prospects presented through the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS), following the ₦673 million investment recorded in 2024.

According to Ireporter Online, Dabiri-Erewa made this appeal during a joint world press conference ahead of the upcoming 2025 edition of the summit, scheduled to hold from November 11 to 13 in Abuja. The event, themed “Fast Tracking Regional & National Development by Mobilising Diaspora Investment”, will take place at the NiDCOM Headquarters.

Dabiri-Erewa explained that since its inception in 2018, the NDIS has evolved into a credible platform for facilitating direct, transparent, and impactful investments from Nigerians in the diaspora into the domestic economy. She emphasized that the 2024 summit recorded significant success, attracting over 1,500 participants — including 236 investors and 1,197 business owners.

Highlighting the summit’s economic impact, she disclosed that the 2024 edition yielded 56 investment deals worth approximately ₦673 million, with the creative industry accounting for 39 of those deals. Other sectors such as infrastructure, real estate, agribusiness, and energy also performed impressively. Dabiri-Erewa added that several state governments, including Ondo, Nasarawa, and Borno, had previously leveraged the platform to secure major development projects — notably the Ondo Port Initiative, which later received Federal Government approval.

She described the summit as more than just an annual gathering, but a powerful driver of enterprise, job creation, and sustainable development that connects Nigeria’s vast talent pool to the nation’s growth agenda.

Also speaking at the press briefing, the Chairperson of the Nigeria Diaspora Summit Initiative (NDSI), Badewa Adejugbe-Williams, said the NDIS has continued to serve as a vital bridge linking diaspora investors to opportunities in Nigeria. She emphasized that this year’s theme aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at diversifying the economy, promoting inclusive growth, and fostering sustainable national development.

Adejugbe-Williams further called on new sponsors, investors, and media partners to join efforts in amplifying the summit’s objectives and tapping into the vast potential it presents for national progress.
