Disguised As Police: Two Men Caught Smuggling Cannabis In Hilux Vans

According to Ireporter Online, troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested two men disguised as mobile police officers while attempting to transport a large consignment of cannabis in Taraba State.

The Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Umar Muhammad, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday, explaining that the suspects were intercepted at Takum Junction in Wukari Local Government Area following credible intelligence.

He revealed that the two men, dressed in police uniforms, were apprehended with two Toyota Hilux vans loaded with substances suspected to be cannabis. Preliminary investigations later confirmed that neither of the suspects was a serving police officer.

According to the Army, the illicit cargo originated from Akure in Ondo State and was being conveyed to Adamawa State before it was intercepted. One of the vehicles was abandoned after its occupants fled on sighting the troops.

A total of 1,134 blocks of cannabis were recovered from the two vehicles, which, along with the suspects, have been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, commended the troops and NDLEA operatives for their synergy and resilience, reiterating the Army’s commitment to making Taraba unsafe for criminal activities. He further urged the public to continue providing credible intelligence to aid security operations.

This arrest adds to the recent string of successes recorded by the NDLEA in its nationwide war against drug trafficking.
