Drama In Kano: Hisbah Cancels TikTok Lovers’ Wedding Over “Fake Romance” Allegation

According to Ireporter Online, the Kano State Hisbah Board has cancelled the much-publicized wedding between popular Kano-based TikTok creator, Idris Mai Wushirya, and his petite partner, Basira ‘Yar Guda.

The decision followed an investigation by the board, which concluded that the proposed union was not genuine but an attempt by both parties to evade ongoing legal actions related to charges of immoral conduct.

Deputy Commander of the Hisbah Board, Dr. Mujahedeen Aminuddeen, confirmed the development on Saturday, stating that the decision was reached after careful review of the case.

“Following our findings, it became clear that the marriage proposal was not founded on mutual agreement but rather a strategy to avoid legal repercussions. The board, therefore, decided to cancel the wedding to prevent potential disputes in the future,” Aminuddeen explained.

He added that although both individuals had undergone initial medical tests to confirm their compatibility, the process had been halted to avoid further complications. He also noted that the case would be referred back to court if an amicable resolution was not achieved.

The controversy began after a Kano Magistrate Court, presided over by Magistrate Halima Wali, deferred ruling on a case of alleged immoral conduct filed against the duo by the Kano State Censorship Board. During the court session, both Wushirya and Yar Guda admitted to being lovers and expressed their intention to marry.

The magistrate subsequently granted a 60-day window for the Hisbah Board to formalize the marriage in accordance with Islamic principles, with instructions to return the matter to court should the union fail to hold.

The decision sparked widespread debate, with some critics interpreting the directive as a form of forced marriage. However, the Kano State Judiciary has since dismissed such claims, labeling them as misrepresentations of the court’s ruling.

Judiciary spokesperson, Baba Jibo, clarified that Magistrate Wali never ordered a forced marriage but merely allowed the couple time to validate their relationship within the bounds of Islamic practice.

“For emphasis, the record of proceedings is clear—both TikTokers openly declared their affection for each other. The lady, Bashira Yar Guda, even insisted she would only marry Idris if he secured his own accommodation rather than a rented apartment,” Jibo explained.

He further stated that the magistrate’s decision to defer ruling was a fair approach intended to respect the couple’s declaration while maintaining legal integrity.
